Oral surgery: wisdom teeth, extractions and bone grafts

From removing a wisdom tooth to a bone graft before an implant: we carry out surgical procedures on the jawbone with ultrasonic surgery (piezosurgery). The technique works with vibrating rather than rotating instruments and is gentle on the bone.

Oral surgery: kurz erklärt

Oral surgery includes procedures such as removing teeth and wisdom teeth, building up the jawbone (augmentation) with your own bone or bone substitute, and the sinus lift, in which the floor of the maxillary sinus is raised with bone material to make room for implants.

We use piezosurgery: fine instruments vibrating ultrasonically work the bone precisely and produce hardly any heat. Instead of a loud drilling noise you only hear a quiet hum. Where needed, a laser supports the treatment of soft tissue.

Wann ist die Behandlung sinnvoll?

  • Wisdom teeth causing lack of space or inflammation
  • Teeth that can no longer be saved
  • Too little jawbone for an implant
  • Low bone height in the upper back jaw (sinus lift)

So läuft die Behandlung ab

  1. Assessment

We examine the situation, assess X-rays and discuss the procedure, the anaesthesia and possible alternatives.

  2. Procedure

Under local anaesthesia or – if medically indicated – general anaesthesia, we carry out the procedure with ultrasonic instruments.

  3. Wound care

The wound is cared for and stitched if necessary. You receive precise instructions for the first few days.

  4. Check-up

At a follow-up appointment we check healing and remove the stitches if needed.

Vorteile

  • Precise, bone-friendly work with ultrasound
  • Hardly any heat on the bone
  • A quiet hum instead of a drilling noise
  • Treatment under general anaesthesia possible if indicated

Risiken und Grenzen

After a surgical procedure, swelling, pain and minor bleeding are common in the first few days. Wound-healing problems such as a painful inflammation of the tooth socket (dry socket), infections and – especially with lower wisdom teeth – temporary or, rarely, permanent numbness of the lip, chin or tongue are also possible. Procedures in the upper jaw can create a connection to the maxillary sinus. We discuss your personal risks with you before the procedure.

Nachsorge

Cool your cheek from the outside with breaks during the first hours. On the first day avoid rinsing, smoking, alcohol and physical exertion, and eat soft food once the anaesthetic has worn off. Contact us if pain increases, if you develop a fever or if bleeding continues.

Häufige Fragen

Do wisdom teeth always have to be removed?

No. Wisdom teeth that are straight, easy to clean and cause no problems can stay. We recommend removal if they cause or could cause inflammation, lack of space or damage to neighbouring teeth.

How long will I be limited after wisdom tooth removal?

Swelling and discomfort are usually strongest in the first two to three days and then subside. Plan some rest after the procedure. We discuss with you how long you should take it easy.
