Clear aligners explained

Treatment consists of a sequence of aligners, each shaped slightly differently. Each aligner moves the teeth step by step towards the planned position. The aligners are almost transparent and barely noticeable in everyday life.

Because you take the aligners out to eat, drink and brush your teeth, oral hygiene stays as simple as usual. For the treatment to work, however, the aligners must be worn for most of the day.

When is the treatment appropriate?

  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Mild crowding or shifted teeth
  • Cosmetic corrections in adults
  • Teenagers once jaw growth is complete

How the treatment works

  1. Assessment

We check whether your tooth position is suitable for correction with aligners and discuss the goal.

  2. Planning and fabrication

Based on impressions, the tooth movement is planned and a series of custom aligners is made.

  3. Wearing the aligners

You change aligners at set intervals; at regular appointments we check progress.

  4. Stabilising

To keep the teeth in their new position, a retention phase is important afterwards, for example with a night-time retainer.

Benefits

  • Almost invisible
  • No wires or sharp edges
  • Removable for eating and brushing
  • Usual oral hygiene

Risks and limitations

Not every misalignment can be corrected with aligners; pronounced misalignment requires orthodontic treatment. Success depends heavily on wearing the aligners consistently. A feeling of pressure in the first days after changing aligners is normal. Without a retention phase the teeth can shift back.

Aftercare

Clean the aligners daily and brush your teeth before putting them back in. Drink only water while wearing the aligners. After the correction, a retainer secures the result.
