In periodontitis, bacteria from dental plaque get below the gum line. Gum pockets form in which the inflammation slowly breaks down the bone that holds the teeth. Because this is often painless for a long time, periodontitis is frequently noticed late. Studies also show links with general conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
During treatment the root surfaces and gum pockets are thoroughly freed of plaque and deposits. We work with ultrasonic instruments (piezo technique) and, where needed, use a laser that supports the treatment of the inflamed tissue.
