Cosmetic dentistry: whitening, veneers and tooth-coloured fillings

Discolouration, old fillings or small flaws in shape can affect your smile. With whitening, veneers, ceramic inlays and tooth-coloured fillings we improve the appearance of your teeth – as gently as possible and with a natural-looking result.

Cosmetic dentistry explained

Whitening lightens discoloured teeth. In the practice we use the ZOOM! system: a gel containing hydrogen peroxide is activated with a special lamp, so teeth can become visibly lighter in just over an hour. Alternatively, you receive custom-made trays for whitening at home.

Veneers are wafer-thin ceramic shells bonded to the front of the teeth. They correct colour, shape, minor misalignment or gaps without the whole tooth having to be crowned. Ceramic inlays and tooth-coloured composite fillings repair defects in back teeth almost invisibly.

On request we also apply tooth jewellery (Toothglitter). It is bonded without damaging the tooth and can be removed again.

When is the treatment appropriate?

  • Discolouration, for example from coffee, tea, red wine or tobacco
  • Unattractive old fillings
  • Small flaws in shape, chips or gaps
  • The wish for a lighter, more even smile

How the treatment works

  1. Consultation

We check that your teeth and gums are healthy and discuss which method suits your wishes and what can realistically be achieved.

  2. Preparation

Professional cleaning is advisable before whitening. For veneers and inlays the teeth are prepared minimally.

  3. Treatment

Depending on the method, whitening takes place in the practice or at home, or we bond the ceramic pieces made in the laboratory.

  4. Check-up

We check the result and give you tips on keeping it beautiful for a long time.

Benefits

  • Natural-looking results
  • Tooth-friendly procedures wherever possible
  • In-practice whitening in about an hour
  • Metal-free materials

Risks and limitations

After whitening, teeth can be temporarily sensitive and the gums can be irritated. How much teeth can be lightened varies from person to person; fillings, crowns and veneers do not lighten, and the result does not last forever. For veneers some enamel is usually removed; this cannot be undone. Ceramic can chip under heavy load, for example from teeth grinding.

Aftercare

In the first days after whitening, avoid strongly colouring food and drink and smoking as far as possible. Care for veneers and inlays like natural teeth; regular check-ups and professional cleaning maintain the result.

Frequently asked questions

Does whitening damage the teeth?

Carried out professionally, whitening is considered gentle; the tooth structure is preserved. Temporary sensitivity is possible. We check beforehand whether your teeth are suitable for whitening.

How long do veneers last?

With good care, veneers can last many years. How long exactly depends on factors such as load, for example from teeth grinding, and regular check-ups.
